The day after Independence day in America. What does Independence mean, really?
The Vaisnavas, devotees of Sri Krishna, see "independence" as "depending in" the Self or sovereignty
from artificial authority and dependence only on the Supreme Lord. Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj Prabhupada says (quoting from the Taittiriya Upanisad, first anuvaka), "The Supreme Personality of Godhead as Supersoul is also present within the heart of the demigod; therefore He arranges through the
demigod to fulfill the desire of the living entity. But both the demigod and the living entity are dependent on the supreme will. They are not independent." (Bhagavad Gita As It Is purport, 7.21)
